Booking a first session can feel like the hardest part. Not knowing what will happen in the room adds to that. Here is what a first session with Sammyaka usually looks like.
Before you arrive
You don’t need to prepare anything. Some people like to jot down a few thoughts beforehand, like what made them reach out now or what they’d like to be different. That’s helpful, but not required.
If you’re meeting online, find a private space where you won’t be overheard, and use headphones if you can.
The first few minutes
Sammyaka will explain how sessions work, including confidentiality: what stays private and the few legal exceptions. You can ask anything at this point, including about her training and approach.
Talking about what brought you
You share what’s been happening, in your own words and at your own pace. You don’t have to tell your whole story in one go. Sammyaka will ask some gentle questions to understand your situation, what you’ve already tried and what matters most to you.
Agreeing what to work on
Towards the end, you’ll talk about what you’d like to change and how sessions might help. You might leave with one small idea to try before next time.
Deciding whether to continue
The first session is also a chance for you to decide if this feels right. Feeling comfortable with your therapist matters. There’s no pressure to book more sessions.
If you’re coming as a couple
Both partners usually attend the first session together. Each of you will get space to share your view. Sammyaka won’t take sides. Her role is to help you understand each other.
If you’re unsure whether therapy is the right step, you can send a message and ask. There’s no obligation.
